Dana started her career with dogs almost ten years ago, volunteering with local rescues and working in doggy daycares. Since then, she has become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), Certified Behaviour Consultant – Canine (CBCC-KA), and a Certified Trick Dog Instructor (CTDI). She has experience with all kinds of dogs with varying behaviour issues during a four-year stint working at the Edmonton Humane Society. There she met Shauna Oliver and Kristen McKenna, and started training in agility and disc with them (respectively).
Since then, Dana has competed and titled in agility with her two Aussies, Mafia and Spark. Spark is a drivey little beast that can do anything he is asked to, with thoughtfulness and enthusiasm; Mafia is more sensitive and has given Dana lots of first hand experience with building a dog’s confidence in sports and trial environments.
Dana generally splits her year into disc and agility seasons, with disc being her primary sport. She has been to disc dog worlds twice, both times dominating with Spark in his height division. She will be going to disc worlds again in spring 2019 and intends to attend agility regionals as well.
While she can be quite competitive, her focus as a trainer is on improving the bond between dogs and their humans with fun training games. Disc, agility, tricks, obedience, puppies, aggression, anxiety are all areas she has experience in!
